AESTHETIC MEDICINE – Dr Thikra Al-Wattar

Aesthetic medicine is a relatively young branch of medicine, which deals with the visible problems associated with ageing.

It combines knowledge from general medicine and dermatology, endocrinology, phlebology as well as other specialist areas.

Here at Nine Springs Dr Al-Wattar offers the following treatments:

  • Consultations
  • Muscle Relaxation (Botox) also useful in the treatment of:
  • Migraine
  • Blepherospasm
  • Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Torticollis
  • Dystrophies
  • Dermal fillers
  • Mesotherapy
  • Chemical Peels

All consultations and treatment are carried out by Dr Al-Wattar who is a specialist in General Internal Medicine and chest medicine who has worked at Yeovil District Hospital for the past 10 years. She developed an interest in the field of aesthetic medicine after specialising for the last two years in elderly care.

She has trained in delivering all the treatments of aesthetic medicine offered at the Centre – Muscle Relaxation, Dermal Fillers, Chemical Peels and Mesotherapy.

Muscle Relaxation (Botox)

Botulinum toxin has been licensed for treatment of medical conditions such as Blepherospasm, relief from Migraine, Hyperhydrosis and Torticollis for many years.  More recently it has been licensed in the UK for treatment of facial wrinkles.

As an alternative to surgery it is possible to use injections of Botulinum Toxin to reduce and relax frown, forehead and laughter lines. The benefits of muscle relaxing treatment are visible within 5-12 days of treatment and will last for 3-4 months, giving the face a smoother, more rested appearance.

Dermal Fillers

These can be used to fill out lines, hollows and wrinkles around your mouth, eyes, nose and forehead.  Lips can be enhanced with a fuller appearance.

Dermal filler uses Hyaluronic acid (a natural chemical constituent of the skin) which is injected into the skin to plump it up, make it firmer and smooth out lines and wrinkles. The filler sits under the skin and binds water to produce a lift and firmness to the treated areas.

Dermal fillers are generally very safe with ounly a small chance of allergic reaction. A local anaesthetic cream is used to numb the injection sites and you can expect some swelling and redness for 1-2 days after treatment.

Typically, the results last six to nine months but this varies from one person to another. The filler is broken down and absorbed by the body, so without further treatments the lines, wrinkles or lips will eventually return to their previous appearance.

Mesotherapy

Multiple injections of pharmaceuticals as well as homeopathic medication, vitamins, plant extracts and other ingredients are injected inot the subcutaneous tissues.  It is used in the treatment of

  • Sports injuries and controlling pain of different origins
  • Lymphoedema and cellulite
  • Improving the skin’s condition

As we age, our skin loses vital nutrients as a result of the sun exposure, hormonal changes, poor diet and poor circulation.

Following treatment, skin appears clear with notably improved complexion and elasticity.

Mesotherapy is a direct, precise and quick way of getting nutrients directly to the areas that need rejuvenating.

Chemical Peels

These are designed to accelerate the removal of old dead skin cells at the surface of the skin and promote new cell growth, giving you softer, younger-looking skin.

There are several different types of chemical peel, each using different chemicals and fruit acids.

They are an ideal treatment for:

  • Age spots
  • Fine facial wrinkles
  • Acne/acne scarring
  • A poor sluggish complexion
  • Weathered and sun-damaged skin
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Superficial scars
